Internal Vacancy: PermanentWatch Manager B, Incident Command Training Co-ordinator

A permanent vacancy has arisen at Watch Manager B in the role of Incident Command Training Co-ordinator. The post is based in the Training & Development Centre at Kempston, with start date anticipated in October 2026.

Applications for appointment on transfer are invited from Substantive Wholetime Duty System Watch Manager Bs

  • Appointments on promotion

Applications for appointment on promotion are invited from substantive Wholetime Duty System Crew Managers who meet the following criteria:

  1. are in the WM talent pool, having successfully passed the Watch Manager gateway or holding a current pass for the Supervisory Manager In-band PQA process and Post In-band Interview and hold the relevant technical examinations (Refer V09 01/03 Technical Examinations for Operational and Control Roles).
  2. are in the WM temporary pool, having undertaken the Watch Manager gateway and eligible for temporary appointment only
  3. are competent Crew Commanders, with a background or interest in Incident Command.

Expressions of interest will be welcomed from those wishing to transfer at their existing Crew Manager role, but anyone looking to join in the role above on promotion will need to complete a Watch Manager promotion gateway process, and enter the Watch Manager talent pool to be eligible for substantive appointment in post. (Applicants will be required to undertake the next WM gateway process, or complete any outstanding elements at the next available opportunity).

Candidates who have a live disciplinary sanction for either Attendance or Conduct at the time of application closing date will not normally be eligible to engage in the selection process. Candidates pending the outcome of a disciplinary matter will not normally be eligible for appointment until the outcome is known. (Exceptions may be made in instances where extenuating circumstances apply).

Other than for reasons of promotion, applicants must be willing to serve within the post for a minimum period of three years.

The post is conditioned to the nine day fortnight day duty system as per Grey Book and Service conditions. The post also attracts an Additional Responsibility Allowance, currently agreed at 1,785.00 per annum.

Expressions of interest should be submitted via the Internal Vacancies section on ITRENT, which can be accessed via ESS. Applicants should outline within the personal statement how they meet the following core areas:

  1. Understanding of the design and development of Service level Incident Command training and assessment programmes
  2. Understanding of factors influencing the planning, coordination and delivery of Service Incident Command training and assessment programmes, both at the service Training & Development Centre and at other venues as required.
  3. Ability to review and evaluate the quality of design and delivery of training and assessment, and to take action and make improvement as appropriate.
  4. Leadership skills and collaborative working

Applicants will be required to attend a short selection process involving a presentation and interview, addressing the specialist post-specific elements of the role. Selection will be based upon the outcome from this post-specific interview. Where a single application is received on transfer or from the WM talent or temporary pool, a professional discussion may take place.
