Apply for the Hypercar Mechanic – Bodywork
Location: Wakefield
Job Description:

If you’re a meticulous, hands-on mechanic who takes pride in perfect panel fitment, clean execution and fast response under pressure — this is your chance to work on one of the most advanced endurance race cars in the world.

The Role

As a Bodywork Mechanic on the McLaren Hypercar Programme, you will be responsible for fitting, maintaining and rapidly repairing all bodywork and aerodynamic components on the car, whilst working closely with the Composites and Wrap Departments to ensure all components meet the required performance and presentation standards. Your work directly influences reliability, aerodynamic performance, cooling efficiency, safety and the overall professionalism of the garage.

This is a role for someone with exceptional attention to detail, great situational awareness, steady hands and the ability to work quickly without sacrificing quality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Preparing, fitting and maintaining bodywork assemblies, panels, aerodynamic components and hardware.
  • Ensuring accurate alignment, secure mounting and correct clearances to maintain performance and presentation standards.
  • Carrying out efficient bodywork changes, repairs and component swaps during testing and race events.
  • Working closely with the Composites Department to identify damage, coordinate repairs and ensure components are race-ready.
  • Liaising with the Wrap Team to maintain the appearance and presentation of bodywork, ensuring all fitted surfaces meet team standards.
  • Collaborating with Mechanics, Engineers, Composites Technicians and Garage Technicians to support the overall operation of the car.
  • Managing bodywork inventory, storage, protection and event allocations.
  • Supporting damage assessments and overseeing the movement of components between departments as required.
  • Assisting with pit stop operations, garage set-up and event build and pack-down activities.

About You

  • Proven mechanical experience in high-level motorsport (WEC, LMP, GT, FE, F1 or similar).
  • Strong understanding of bodywork systems, fasteners, mounts and composite interfaces.
  • Calmness under pressure and ability to turn cars around at pace.
  • Exceptional attention to detail — nothing escapes your eye.
  • Strong communication and teamwork across departments.
  • High standards of organisation, workspace discipline and safety.
  • Willingness to travel internationally and work long, intensive race weekends.

Why This Role Matters

Bodywork is not cosmetic — it’s performance. Aero efficiency, cooling, reliability, access and safety all depend on flawless execution. If you’re the type of person who can spot a misaligned panel from 20 metres away — and fix it in seconds — you’ll thrive here.
