Role Overview
Vickerstock are working in partnership with a major manufacturing business on the appointment of a Materials & Inventory Analyst. This is a full-time, permanent position offering the opportunity to play a key role in ensuring material availability, supporting production, and improving inventory performance across the business.
The successful candidate will be highly data-focused, confident working with Excel, and experienced in using an MRP and/or ERP system to turn demand and stock data into practical planning actions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor and maintain appropriate inventory levels across raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods.
- Analyse demand, stock, and supply data to identify potential shortages, excess stock, slow-moving inventory, and obsolescence risks.
- Create replenishment plans and purchase recommendations in line with demand forecasts, lead times, inventory targets, and production requirements.
- Use MRP/ERP systems to maintain accurate planning parameters, review material requirements, and resolve exceptions.
- Work closely with Procurement and suppliers to ensure continuity of supply and proactively manage material availability issues.
- Support Production Planning by ensuring materials are available to meet production schedules and customer requirements.
- Produce regular inventory reports and dashboards covering stock levels, inventory turns, service performance, aged stock, and planning risks.
- Investigate inventory discrepancies, supporting cycle counts, stock reconciliations, and inventory accuracy initiatives.
- Contribute to S&OP, demand planning, capacity planning, and wider continuous-improvement activity.
- Identify opportunities to improve inventory processes, reporting, system utilisation, and planning accuracy.
- Communicate inventory risks, root causes, and proposed actions clearly to internal stakeholders.
What you will need to succeed:
- Previous experience in an inventory planning, materials planning, supply planning, production planning, or inventory control role within a manufacturing environment.
- A proactive, improvement-focused approach with the confidence to challenge data and escalate risks early.
- Strong analytical ability, with confidence interpreting complex data and translating it into clear actions.
- Advanced Excel skills, including the ability to work with large datasets, lookups, pivot tables, and reporting tools.
- Practical experience using an MRP and/or ERP system for inventory management, material planning, replenishment, or reporting.
- A strong understanding of inventory principles, including stock turns, safety stock, lead times, service levels, and obsolete or slow-moving stock.
