Engineering Manager — FinTech – 100% Hands off
London | Hybrid — 3 days a week in the office
We’re hiring an Engineering Manager to lead a high-performing team of around 7–8 engineers at an ambitious fintech business in London.
This is a genuinely important leadership role within the product and engineering organisation. You’ll be responsible for creating the environment for a great team to do its best work — balancing people leadership, product delivery and technical direction.
We’re looking for someone who has built their career in strong product companies and has a track record of staying and making an impact. Good tenure matters to us: we’re particularly interested in people who have spent several years at companies, grown with them, and can demonstrate sustained ownership rather than a series of short stints.
The role
You’ll lead a team of 7–8 engineers working closely with Product, Design and other engineering leaders to build and improve products used by customers at scale.
You’ll:
- Lead, coach and develop a team of 7–8 engineers
- Set a high bar for engineering quality, delivery and team culture
- Partner closely with Product and Design to shape priorities and roadmap
- Give engineers clear direction, regular feedback and meaningful career development
- Own delivery across your team, helping remove blockers and improve how the team operates
- Work with senior engineers on technical direction, architecture and engineering standards
- Balance short-term delivery with building a healthy, scalable engineering organisation
- Contribute to the wider engineering culture and management team
What we’re looking for
You’ll likely have:
- Proven experience as an Engineering Manager leading a team of around 6–10 engineers
- A strong software engineering background and enough technical depth to engage credibly with engineers
- Experience working in product-led technology companies, ideally fintech or another technically complex environment
- A track record of building high-performing teams and developing engineers
- Strong product instincts and experience working closely with Product and Design
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to operate effectively with both engineers and senior stakeholders
- Evidence of good tenure and sustained impact in previous roles
We care less about a particular technology stack and more about how you lead, how you think about product and engineering, and the quality of teams you’ve built.
