Principal Electrical Engineer, Water

Overview

In this role, you will lead electrical design for water and wastewater projects, ensuring technical excellence across multi-disciplinary teams. You’ll engage with clients, suppliers and contractors, guiding bid activity and project delivery from feasibility to construction. You’ll shape design standards and contribute to our digital solutions, improving quality and consistency. Responsibilities

• Lead the electrical and ICA design for wastewater and water infrastructure projects, including site surveys, liaising with clients and suppliers
• Produce load schedules, single line diagrams, MCC general arrangements, instrument schedules, and electrical installation and cable calculations
• Develop and specify PLC/SCADA systems, control philosophy, URS, specifications, and technical reports
• Contribute to P&ID inputs, site surveys, and data gathering activities across design stages
• Manage design across feasibility, outline, detail, and construction phases ensuring compliance with design standards
• Collaborate with other disciplines locally and nationally to deliver high-quality solutions
• Delegate tasks and mentor junior staff while leading bid preparation and client interfacing
• Ensure delivery of quality designs within budgets and timelines across a range of water clients (e.g., Severn Trent Water, Yorkshire Water, Thames Water)
• Review client deliverables such as calculations, drawings, and reports to relevant standards
• Support the adoption of AECOM’s digital strategy (BIM, Projectwise, intelligent P&ID, in-house tools) on projects

Key requirements

• Extensive design experience in managing the technical delivery of large-scale water engineering projects
• BEng or MEng in a related engineering field with water and wastewater treatment experience
• Chartered Member of a relevant Professional Institution
• Proven experience in team leadership, mentoring, and line management
• Experience managing projects, delegating tasks, and providing technical mentoring
• Strong collaboration and coordination skills between teams, clients and stakeholders
