Group Manager – Civil Engineering

In this role, you lead the UK Civil Engineering group within a multinational engineering organisation focused on energy transition and nuclear/renewable infrastructure. You will shape technical quality, safety, and delivery performance while developing people and fostering team spirit. You work across UK and international teams to optimise multi-disciplinary delivery and engineer governance. Responsibilities

• Lead and develop the UK Civil Engineering group with emphasis on technical excellence, nuclear safety, and delivery quality
• Oversee workload, capacity planning, recruitment, training, performance reviews, and career development including Chartership support
• Provide civil engineering technical knowledge and escalation for complex problems
• Ensure studies, document quality, and compliance with IMS procedures, codes of practice, and project requirements
• Coordinate civil engineering inputs with project, engineering, and departmental objectives
• Support multi-disciplinary project delivery and business opportunities with other discipline leaders
• Foster understanding of multi-disciplinary delivery through appropriate management practices
• Build strong relationships with métier leaders in France, Belgium, and Engineering Centres
• Support commercial activities via proposal reviews, technical input, and client engagement
• Encourage resilience and knowledge transfer within a small team and succession readiness
• Operate effectively in a matrix organisation with cross-border collaboration
• Influence across reporting lines and adapt to the Project to Business transformation

Key requirements

• Degree qualification in Civil / Structural Engineering
• Chartered Engineer or expected to complete Chartership with demonstrable influence on engineering decisions
• Experience in a management function leading engineers
• Experience in reinforced concrete calculation and design
• Familiarity with Eurocodes, British Standards, and ETC-C for HPC/SZC
• Experience working across multi-disciplinary teams
