Principal Electrical Engineer

Overview

As Principal Electrical Engineer, you will lead electrical design delivery on high‑profile projects across healthcare, education, data centres, and more, guiding internal teams and coordinating with clients and external consultants. You will own projects from inception to completion, ensuring technical excellence and quality while managing costs and risks. You’ll shape design briefs, represent the business at meetings, and mentor junior engineers, contributing to business development and strategic opportunities. This role combines leadership, technical leadership, and client-facing excellence in a collaborative, growth‑minded practice.

Responsibilities

• Lead electrical design delivery on complex projects
• Manage multidisciplinary project teams
• Develop design briefs and manage client relationships
• Represent the business at client and project meetings
• Review and oversee technical work and develop junior engineers
• Manage project costs, resources and commercial risks
• Ensure projects are delivered to a high technical and quality standard
• Support business development and future client opportunities

Key requirements

• Chartered or professionally qualified (preferred)
• Strong experience in electrical/building services design
• Proven track record leading complex projects
• Strong client-facing and leadership skills
• Commercial awareness
• Excellent communication abilities
• Experience with Revit, AutoCAD, Dialux and OM Electrical
