Senior Heritage Consultant – Glasgow or Edinburgh

Overview

In this role, you will lead archaeological fieldwork projects within the Cultural Heritage and Archaeology team, guiding planning processes and bespoke strategies for developments and infrastructure. You will work as part of a large, multi-disciplinary firm that operates across the UK and Ireland, contributing to high-profile projects and ensuring safety and quality in fieldwork. Your efforts will support business development, client relationships, and the diversification of the team’s service offering from a Leeds base. You drive impactful heritage outcomes while collaborating across disciplines in a dynamic consultancy environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead fieldwork projects from planning and consent stages and deliver bespoke archaeological strategies for developments and infrastructure
• Monitor and assure the work of WSP-approved fieldwork subcontractors (on-site and in technical reviews of deliverables, including RAMS)
• Prepare competitive tenders and design scope/methodology for archaeological fieldwork in line with Health and Safety protocols
• Produce or contribute to archaeological desk-based assessments
• Undertake stakeholder, curator and client liaison
• Develop and promote the team’s service offering through business development and marketing activities

Key requirements

• Experience of archaeological fieldwork project management (project, financial and staff management)
• Robust knowledge of Ireland archaeology and history and full knowledge of the planning process and relevant environmental/heritage legislation and guidance in Ireland
• Experience in heritage and planning, masterplanning, heritage conservation, heritage-led regeneration, recreation and tourism, heritage sustainability masterplanning, placemaking, multi-disciplinary collaboration and business development
• Excellent writing skills, good communication and team player
• Motivated, conscientious and efficient approach to meet deadlines and budgets in a busy consultancy environment
