Principal / Senior Civil Engineer

Overview

In this role you will lead the design and delivery of major civil infrastructure projects in a Bristol-based team. You will provide technical leadership, ensure design and safety compliance, and coordinate with clients and engineers to drive projects from proposal to completion. The position focuses on highways, drainage, and external works, balancing quality, cost, and schedule. Responsibilities

• Lead the design and delivery of major civil infrastructure projects
• Provide expert consultation and technical leadership
• Ensure design and operational excellence across civil engineering activities
• Design and supervise roads, bridges, and water systems
• Ensure compliance with environmental, safety, and structural standards
• Coordinate with clients and other engineers for smooth execution
• Oversee project delivery from proposal to practical completion, meeting quality, cost, and time objectives
• Mentor engineers and technicians

Key requirements

• Experience in producing preliminary and detailed highway designs (S38/S278 Highways Act)
• Ability to design drainage (S104/S98 Water Act), including SuDS and flow control structures
• Experience in residential and commercial external works design, including earthworks assessments
• Proficiency in technical reports, assessments, statements, and fee proposals
• Understanding of CDM and UK Building Regulations compliance
• Strong knowledge of AutoCAD and MicroDrainage (InfoDrainage)
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
• Minimum HND/C in Civil Engineering; degree desirable
• Chartered status with ICE or equivalent desirable
