Overview

As a Data Scientist in our Risk team, you will build and deploy machine learning models that power commercial lending decisions. You’ll optimize existing models, explore new data sources, and translate complex analyses into actionable insights for stakeholders. You’ll collaborate across data engineers, analysts, and business partners to advance borrower products and scale impact. This role offers ownership of end-to-end modeling in a mission-driven fintech that supports UK small businesses.

Responsibilities

  • Develop statistical and ML models for lending products
  • Optimize and innovate models with new data sources
  • Communicate findings clearly to non-technical stakeholders
  • Proactively identify risks, issues, or control weaknesses
  • Experiment with frameworks for model optimization

Key requirements

  • Degree in a quantitative STEM discipline
  • Proven ability to apply quantitative frameworks to business problems
  • End-to-end experience in statistical modeling, ML architecture, and deployment
  • Strong Python skills for data manipulation and modeling
  • Deep SQL proficiency for complex queries and data preparation
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional partners to drive insights
  • Ability to design workflows and leverage AI to automate tasks
  • Identify high-impact AI use cases and apply advanced prompting techniques
  • Prior experience in Credit Risk or Data Science is beneficial
  • Collaboration with cross-functional teams
