Criminal Defence Solicitor

Overview

In this role you will join a national criminal defence team in Bristol to manage a varied caseload across regulatory investigations, prosecutions and inquests. You will advise clients facing HSE prosecutions, EA and Local Authority probes, and complex regulatory matters, working with recognised experts. You’ll lead matters from instruction through resolution while contributing to business development and training to raise the team’s profile. This is a high-visibility, career‑driven opportunity in a collaborative firm.

Responsibilities

• Handle a varied caseload including regulatory investigations, criminal prosecutions and inquests
• Advise clients facing HSE prosecutions, Environment Agency and Local Authority investigations, motor offences (including fatal accidents) and care provider/CQC matters
• Manage complex matters from initial instruction to resolution
• Contribute to business development activities and client training
• Help raise the profile of the team within the firm and market
• Collaborate with senior experts to deliver market-leading client service

Key requirements

• At least 3 years PQE in criminal defence and regulatory work
• Experience defending HSE prosecutions is essential
• Excellent advocacy, drafting and client management skills
• Commercially aware and capable of handling complex matters with confidence
• Collaborative approach and strong organisational skills
• Interest in developing client relationships and supporting business development initiatives
