Corporate Counsel, AWS Legal

Overview

In this role you will lead Europe, Middle East and Africa global trade matters for AWS, delivering strategic legal counsel on import, customs, export controls, sanctions, and related regimes for emerging technologies. You will partner with cross-functional teams to shape compliant workflows and innovative solutions that enable AWS to scale its technology initiatives. You’ll analyze evolving regulations and translate them into actionable guidance, supporting regulatory engagements and strategic business decisions. This is a high-impact position at the crossroads of technology, law, and global strategy with a focus on robotics, AI, and quantum computing.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive legal counsel on import, customs, export controls, sanctions, and other international trade laws for emerging technologies
• Develop innovative international trade compliance solutions
• Research evolving regulatory landscapes and communicate implications to business stakeholders
• Support regulatory engagements and provide strategic input on legal and business decisions
• Manage multiple complex legal matters with precision and creativity
• Collaborate with global business teams and translate complex legal frameworks into actionable guidance
• Support AWS’s emerging technological advancements through regulatory insight and compliance planning

Key requirements

• License to practice law in Europe, US or other common law jurisdiction
• 5+ years post-qualification legal experience
• Experience working independently with legal and business partners at all levels
• Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills
• Knowledge of international trade laws including import, customs, export controls, or sanctions
• Exceptional research and analytical abilities with ability to summarize regulatory impacts
• Ability to provide practical legal guidance in fast-paced, ambiguous environments
