Data Scientist

Overview

In this role you will lead data science projects within the Children and Young People’s Services to generate evidence that informs decision-making. You will apply predictive analytics, modelling, and visualization to identify trends and translate findings into practical actions. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to turn complex data into accessible insights for senior leaders. This role supports improving outcomes for children, young people and families and contributes to Lewisham Council’s mission as a sanctuary borough.

Responsibilities

• Lead data science projects using internal and external datasets to generate actionable insights for decision-makers
• Apply predictive analytics, data modelling and machine learning to address service challenges
• Develop models, identify trends and translate analyses into clear data stories for senior leadership
• Communicate findings to non-specialist audiences and stakeholders
• Collaborate across Children and Young People’s Services to turn evidence into practical actions for improved outcomes
• Support the organisation’s data-driven decision-making by providing reproducible analyses and recommendations

Key requirements

• Experienced data professional with strong coding skills in Python or R
• Ability to interrogate complex datasets and develop models
• Experience in data visualisation and communicating insights for decision-makers
• Strong analytical and collaborative mindset with a focus on real-world problem solving
• Comfort working with cross-functional teams and presenting to senior leaders
