As a Lead/Principal FPGA/Firmware Engineer at Leonardo, you will shape firmware for complex digital systems used in self-protection platforms across fast jets, UAVs, and naval assets. You will lead FPGA/firmware delivery with cross-functional teams, influence engineering processes, and contribute to reviews and validation. Responsibilities
- Capture and manage firmware requirements
- Design and analyze FPGA architectures
- Prepare documentation and evidence for design reviews
- Develop FPGA test plans and integration strategies
- Collaborate with PCB designers for system integration
- Support firmware development within the company process
- Modify existing firmware designs and test benches
Key requirements
- Experience leading FPGA/firmware teams or delivering complex embedded solutions
- Proficiency with Xilinx toolchain, TCL, Verilog, SystemVerilog, and UVM
- Experience with Xilinx 7, Xilinx UltraScale, Intel (Altera), or Microsemi (Actel) architectures
- Familiarity with fast interfaces such as PCIe, Ethernet, and JESD
- Model-based design using MATLAB and Simulink
- Ability to derive detailed firmware requirements from system specs
- Structured FP/firmware design approach aligned with RTCA DO-254 or similar
- Knowledge of cryptography and anti-tamper techniques
- Exposure to AI techniques including ML and genetic algorithms
- Experience with electronics test methods and equipment
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Security clearance capabilities including BPSS; potential eligibility for SC or DV
