Quality Control Engineer

Overview

As a Quality Control Engineer in the Power Transmission & Distribution unit, you will help ensure that projects meet customer requirements, standards, and industry best practice. You will coordinate assurance activities across the project lifecycle and manage quality documentation to support safe, on-time delivery. You’ll work with project teams and the supply chain to implement robust ITPs and drive continuous improvement. The role combines hands-on quality control with governance, risk management, and reporting. This is a field-based, UK-wide role with travel, focused on zero-defect delivery and safety.

Responsibilities

• Review supply chain Quality Plans and ITPs for full compliance
• Support project teams in delivering quality deliverables and resolving material issues
• Develop and manage Manufacturing Assurance Plans with risk-based interventions
• Attend FATs to verify quality, technical, and contractual requirements
• Produce and maintain records of FAT activities
• Identify, control, and report non-conforming materials (NCRs)
• Assist root cause investigations and implement corrective actions
• Support internal and external quality audits and share lessons learned
• Coach teams on quality awareness and capability
• Carry out site-based QC inspections to verify compliance
• Promote continuous improvement and right-first-time delivery
• Demonstrate Balfour Beatty Values and Zero Harm focus

Key requirements

• Solid technical background in quality assurance within transmission and distribution
• Knowledge of UK T&D standards, legislation, IEC standards
• Experience with quality documentation in engineering environments
• Ability to communicate complex information to technical and non-technical audiences
• Strong understanding of Quality Management principles
• Analytical and problem-solving skills with a detail-oriented approach
• Strong report-writing and numeracy skills
• Ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 and digital workplace tools
• Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel across the UK (and internationally)
• Desirable: ISO 9001:2015 Lead Auditor, FAT experience, CQI Practitioner status
