Senior Fire Engineer

Overview

In this Fire Safety Engineer role, you will apply fire engineering expertise across building projects and rail-related work, supporting design teams in a consultancy setting. You will collaborate with clients, architects and contractors to deliver compliant fire safety advice and solutions, and develop fire risk assessments and safety strategy reports. The role blends technical delivery with mentoring junior staff and progressing projects within time and budget. You will contribute to Arcadis’ mission of sustainable, safe built environments.

Responsibilities

• Perform fire engineering design across multiple sectors
• Support project delivery within time and cost budgets
• Collaborate with clients, architects, PMs, contractors and authorities for compliant solutions
• Develop Fire Safety Strategy reports for new and existing buildings
• Conduct Means of Escape analyses and evacuation planning
• Apply and stay updated on UK fire safety regs and standards (e.g., AD B, BS 9999/BS 7974/BS 9991) and rail standards (e.g., LUL S1371, RSPG)
• Interpret and apply fire safety codes (NFPA 101, NFPA 130)
• Provide third-party design verification and participate in internal/external meetings
• Contribute to Fire Risk Assessments for buildings and rail
• Lead fire projects and project teams; support bidding and fee proposals
• Mentor and line-manage junior staff; support career development to leadership roles

Key requirements

• Recent demonstrable experience in a technical fire safety engineering environment across sectors
• Strong client-facing skills and ability to build relationships externally and internally
• Robust problem-solving and accountability for tasks
• Experience writing reports and presenting to clients and internal stakeholders
• Experience working in a medium to large, multi-disciplinary environment
• Membership with professional bodies (IFE, CABE, RICS, IET, CIOB, etc.) or working towards membership
