Estimator Required in Essex

Overview

In this Estimator role, you will prepare detailed cost estimates for refurbishment and fit-out projects, supporting winning bids for a growing main contractor. You will collaborate with commercial and pre-construction teams to develop cost plans, review specifications for risks and value engineering, and ensure accurate, competitive pricing. This role offers a hands-on chance to influence project outcomes and contribute to a firm aiming to double turnover. You will work closely with clients, consultants, and suppliers to secure successful tenders.

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed cost estimates for refurbishment and fit-out projects
• Carry out quantity take-offs from drawings, specifications, and client documents
• Prepare and issue subcontractor enquiries and analyse quotations
• Build cost plans and pricing schedules for tenders
• Collaborate with commercial and pre-construction teams to develop winning bids
• Review project specifications to identify risks, opportunities, and value engineering options
• Ensure estimates are accurate and aligned with market rates
• Attend pre-tender, mid-tender, and post-tender meetings; support tender submissions and commercial documentation
• Maintain and update cost databases and historical pricing information
• Liaise with clients, consultants, suppliers, and subcontractors to obtain pricing information
• Assist in handover of successful tenders to the delivery team

Key requirements

• Minimum of 2 years working for a main contractor on fit-out projects
• Practical and methodical mindset with problem-solving ability
• Strong written reporting and clear communication to diverse stakeholders
• Knowledge of building technology, processes, materials, and legal matters
