Mobile Building Engineer – Wymott

Overview

As a Mobile Building Engineer, you will deliver maintenance and reactive tasks across multiple establishment sites in the North West, ensuring safety, compliance, and reliability of facilities. You’ll operate within a cross-regional team to support MoJ/HMPPS prisons, traveling between sites with a company van and fuel card. The role combines hands-on maintenance with security protocols and incident response, on a 39-hour week with weekend rotas and call-out duties. This is a service-focused, mission-driven position in a high-security environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide maintenance and reactive tasks across multiple establishments with strict compliance
• Manage tool control and security protocols per Amey/MOJ/HMPPS requirements
• Be competent in one or more regional maintenance principals and undergo training
• Support escort duties and adapt to business needs by working at various sites as required
• Travel across the region to cover approximately 6 establishments
• Carry out fire-related maintenance tasks (doors, extinguishers, alarms) and emergency lighting
• Conduct water temperature testing and basic IT-related tasks
• Operate safely and autonomously, using initiative, and work at heights

Key requirements

• Full UK driving licence
• Relevant NVQ/qualifications in a maintenance discipline
• Ability to work independently and at height
• Project management knowledge
• Experience in fire/ems systems maintenance and emergency lighting
• RCD experience and water temperature testing
• IT skills and basic Health and Safety knowledge
• Willingness to qualify for Confined Spaces AP responsibilities
• Experience in custodial environments (desirable)
• Prison Security Clearance including DBS (Amey will support)
