Overview
In this role, you lead independent second-line oversight of operational resilience for American Express’ international entities. You will implement and sustain the enterprise resiliency framework across multiple disciplines, ensuring local regulatory alignment. You partner with regional risk officers and business leaders to translate global requirements into effective local oversight. You drive governance, reporting and credible challenge to strengthen resilience capabilities across markets. This position offers impact by shaping cross-border risk management and safeguarding continuity of critical services.
Responsibilities
- Oversee international second-line resilience risk across international businesses and legal entities, aligning with enterprise standards and local rules.
- Drive international implementation of the resiliency framework across Business Resiliency, Continuity, Disaster Recovery, Crisis Management, Technology and Cyber Resilience, Third-Party Risk, and Site/Workforce Resiliency.
- Create and communicate a consolidated international risk profile by identifying material risks, vulnerabilities, and emerging themes.
- Provide independent review of critical resilience activities, including service identification, dependency mapping, impact tolerances, scenario testing, controls and remediation.
- Collaborate with regional leaders to translate enterprise requirements into locally effective oversight and maintain consistency across jurisdictions.
- Lead resilience governance and reporting, including risk appetite, metrics, executive reporting, and escalation of material risks.
- Develop internationally based risk colleagues, ensuring consistent standards of risk oversight and credible challenge.
- Monitor regulatory developments (e.g., DORA, PRA, OCC, FFIEC) and support resilience-related examinations and audits.
- Provide independent risk oversight during significant disruptions and facilitate lessons learned to strengthen capabilities.
Key requirements
- Experience in banking, payments, or financial services within a large, regulated organization; transferable resilience expertise considered.
- Proven second-line risk management experience with independent oversight, credible challenge, risk assessment and escalation.
- Experience leading resilience oversight across multiple countries or legal entities with dependency mapping and scenario testing.
- Oversight of major operational disruptions, technology outages, cyber events or similar resilience events.
- Relevant professional certifications in Operational Resilience, Business Continuity, Disaster Recovery, Risk Management, Technology Risk or Cybersecurity.
