Commercial Director

Overview

As Commercial Director at the Faculty of Science and Engineering, you lead the commercial strategy for the Materials Innovation Factory and related facilities. You drive external reputation, high‑level industry engagement, and strategic partnerships to grow income and maximize value from laboratories, platforms, and capital capabilities. You will align academic capabilities with industry and regional needs, translating engagement into sustainable funding and measurable outcomes. You join a collaborative leadership team to accelerate translation of research into impactful solutions and new opportunities for funders and partners.

Responsibilities

• Provide commercial leadership to enhance external reputation and thought leadership
• Grow industry income and strengthen strategic partnerships
• Maximise commercial and operational value of research platforms, laboratories, and capital capabilities
• Collaborate with lead researchers, Partnerships and Innovation teams, and professional services to deliver strategic initiatives (e.g., AIM-HI, LIPF)
• Ensure industry engagement translates into sustainable income and long-term partner value
• Interface with senior academics to secure funding supporting research translation and alignment with partner needs
• Work within University Partnership and Enterprise strategies and coordinate with relevant institutional teams
