Overview

In this role you will develop and verify on-board software for the ESA Vigil satellite programme, working within a Continuous Deployment environment. You will design, implement, test, and integrate software alongside multidisciplinary teams to deliver robust space-grade solutions. The position emphasizes real-time Linux software, HIL integration, and CI/CD practices to ensure high-quality outcomes. You will contribute to ECSS-aligned documentation and communicate complex concepts to diverse stakeholders, shaping critical space missions.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain on-board software in C++
• Create and maintain software models and simulation environments
• Support hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) design, integration and testing
• Debug and troubleshoot real-time software in Linux environments
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and deployment practices
• Implement multi-process and multi-threaded software architectures
• Develop and execute unit and integration software verification
• Apply OO design principles and design patterns
• Produce technical documentation per ECSS standards
• Collaborate with systems, avionics and verification engineers across the software life cycle
• Communicate technical concepts effectively to technical and non-technical stakeholders

Key requirements

• University degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or a related technical discipline
• At least 4 years of software engineering experience (5+ preferred)
• Strong C++ development experience
• Good Java knowledge for software testing
• Experience designing and debugging real-time Linux software (RedHat)
• Experience with Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) systems
• Experience with CI/CD environments
• Strong understanding of multi-process and multi-threaded architectures
• Experience with software testing methodologies and unit testing frameworks
• Knowledge of OOAD with UML or similar modelling
• Solid understanding of SDLC and modern coding practices
• Familiarity with software development frameworks, tools and utilities
• Experience with machine-to-machine communication protocols
• Excellent English communication and presentation skills
