Senior Health and Safety Consultant

Overview

In this on-site role, you will lead health and safety management on a large construction project, ensuring CDM compliance and high-quality service for the client. You work closely with the client, principal contractor, and design teams to deliver safe outcomes and robust reporting. You drive safety governance, site inspections, and coordination across teams to protect people and project performance. The position offers hands-on responsibility with opportunities to mentor staff and influence project-wide safety culture. This is a client-facing, contract-based opportunity on a major construction site with a global consultancy backing.

Responsibilities

• Support business unit directors in achieving objectives on large-scale projects
• Monitor the principal contractor and attend project meetings
• Provide on-site safety support to the client and contractors
• Develop and maintain positive client relationships while delivering a high-quality service
• Manage the client’s health and safety obligations and ensure CDM compliance
• Coordinate health and safety aspects of design work
• Facilitate communication among client, designers, and contractors
• Produce regular safety reports and issue flash reports for major events
• Mentor and coach staff, and contribute to bids for services
• Promptly advise directors of issues affecting projects or indemnity

Key requirements

• Post-qualification health and safety experience on live construction sites
• Sound construction health and safety management experience
• Thorough knowledge of health and safety legislation for construction
• Recognised level 6 safety qualification (e.g., NEBOSH Diploma) and related qualifications
• Ability to work independently on a large project and represent the client
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
• Competent ICT skills (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
• Experience in bid preparation and on-site coordination
