Engineering Lab Manager

Overview

In this role you will lead the Bristol RF testing capability within the Antenna Core Delivery Team, overseeing hands-on planning and execution of specialist measurements for electronics and antenna product development. You will manage lab safety, calibration, and test records while coordinating with cross-functional RF, Microwave, Electronics, and Mechanical teams. The position combines hands-on testing with strategic lab management to enable reliable development and delivery of military communications equipment. This is a hands-on leadership role at a site-focused, collaborative engineering environment with opportunities to improve processes and equipment.

Responsibilities

• Agree test plans and strategies with project teams
• Plan and schedule testing activities to meet requirements
• Set up test equipment and record measurements
• Maintain lab risk assessments and ESD equipment; perform monthly lab inspections
• Oversee on-site screened room and near-field chambers maintenance
• Manage calibration and records of test equipment
• Keep records of local engineering assets under test
• Conduct lab inductions for new staff
• Introduce basic continuous improvement concepts for processes and equipment

Key requirements

• Lab management experience for developing and testing electronics products
• Understanding of general electronics and RF test equipment and measurement techniques
• Understanding of electronics design and antenna basics
• Knowledge of risk assessment procedures and safe ESD practices
• Strong communication skills across RF, Microwave, Electronics and Mechanical functions
• Systematic, well-documented approach to testing and results
