Project Cost Consultant

Overview

In this role you will support cost management across Mobility projects, helping deliver value for Rail, Highway and Aviation portfolios. You’ll work with cross‑functional teams to monitor costs, forecast variances, and prepare commercial reports that inform decisions. You’ll assist on small to medium commissions while identifying risks and upholding risk and compliance standards. This position offers the chance to shape cost management processes and drive service innovation within a leading sustainability-focused firm.

Responsibilities

• Support cost management services across Rail, Highway and Aviation projects within the Mobility portfolio
• Manage cost monitoring, forecasting and variance analysis for allocated projects
• Prepare and contribute to cost plans, budgets, estimates and commercial reports
• Assist senior colleagues with the management of small to medium‑scale commissions
• Identify risks, issues and commercial challenges, escalating when needed
• Provide guidance on risk and compliance principles aligned with organisational procedures
• Build effective relationships with clients, contractors and internal stakeholders through clear communication
• Contribute to continuous improvement by refining cost management processes and promoting service innovation

Key requirements

• 5+ years’ experience in cost or commercial management within infrastructure, transport or construction projects
• Experience within Rail, Highway or Aviation sectors is advantageous
• Experience with NEC3/NEC4 contracts and application of contract mechanisms including compensation events
• Strong data analysis, cost information interpretation and ability to produce accurate commercial documentation
• Effective interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate across multi‑disciplinary teams
• Ability to prioritise workload, work independently and stay organised under pressure
• Solid understanding of construction processes and cost management methodologies
• Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying or equivalent
• Near‑attainment or attainment of a professional qualification (e.g., RICS); CSCS card holder or willingness to obtain
