Technical Lead, Android Growth Systems and App Foundations

Overview

In this Technical Lead role, you guide high-impact projects and align cross-functional teams around goals, outcomes, and timelines. You design, build, test, and scale large software systems, leveraging AI tools to optimize workflows. You supervise a technical team of six while contributing as an individual contributor about half the time. You shape the Android ecosystem integration for Google Search, driving proactive, context-aware experiences. This position offers scale, leadership, and the chance to influence how billions search and interact with information.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership on high-impact projects
• Facilitate alignment across teams on goals, outcomes, and timelines
• Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and enhance large-scale software solutions
• Leverage AI development tools to optimize daily workflows
• Manage a technical team of 6 engineers while spending ~50% of time as an IC
• Collaborate with Product, UX, and cross-functional teams to integrate search into Android
• Lead technical strategy and architecture discussions for the Android/Google Search stack
• Drive evolution of OS-level entry points and proactive assistance features

Key requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience
• 8 years of software development experience
• 5 years of experience testing and launching software products
• 5 years of experience with Android application development
• 3 years of software design and architecture experience
• Strong leadership experience (minimum 3 years) in project teams and setting technical direction
• Experience in a complex, matrixed organization with cross-functional projects
• Experience with modern Android development (Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, Material Design)
