Mechanical Engineer

Overview

As Mechanical Engineer on Viridor’s new Tilbury ERF project, you help ensure plant reliability from construction through handover to operations. You’ll work within the Engineering and Maintenance team to establish practices that secure long-term asset value and safety. You’ll coordinate maintenance planning, stores, and workshops while guiding colleagues and contractors to meet KPIs. This role offers the chance to shape a major energy recovery facility from ground up and contribute to a climate-positive waste-to-energy program.

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute maintenance activities across the ERF plant to maximise availability and reliability
• Manage stores and workshops to support maintenance operations
• Provide technical guidance to colleagues and develop capability
• Coordinate with EC&I Engineers to align mechanical activities with overall plant performance
• Support health, safety, environmental and financial targets
• Prepare site during construction to establish engineering practices for long-term success
• Assist in transitions as Viridor moves to operations in 2028

Key requirements

• Knowledge of mechanical machinery repair methods, materials and maintenance practices
• Experience with Permit to Work and Safe Systems of Work
• Experience supervising teams and contractors to deliver KPIs
• Experience using a Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Engineering qualification such as an HNC or equivalent
