Lead Web3 Engineer – Digital Assets Platform

Overview

In this role, you will lead backend development for Citi’s Integrated Digital Assets Platform, building enterprise-grade Web3 solutions that connect to blockchain networks. You’ll work with a large, cross-functional team to deliver scalable, secure APIs and services, while integrating wallets, nodes, and on-chain events. You’ll shape architecture, contribute to smart contract development, and stay ahead of blockchain developments. This is a hands-on, impact-driven position at scale in a leading financial institution.

Responsibilities

• Develop, test, and maintain backend components and services integrating with blockchain networks
• Implement blockchain integrations including node connectivity, transaction submission, and wallet interactions
• Develop APIs and microservices exposing blockchain functionality to platform consumers
• Implement asynchronous/event-driven processing for transaction lifecycle and data synchronization
• Participate in code reviews and maintain high standards of quality and test coverage
• Collaborate with architects, engineers, and product teams to translate requirements into maintainable solutions
• Contribute to technical documentation like design notes and API specs
• Support debugging and issue resolution across blockchain stack in development and production environments
• Follow engineering best practices and Agile delivery processes
• Stay informed of blockchain/Web3 developments and participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies

Key requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in CS or Engineering; MS/PhD a plus
• Extensive experience in full software development and testing lifecycle
• Proven backend web development with Java Spring
• Solid experience in web3 application development (a plus)
• Experience with asynchronous programming for web applications
• Familiarity with web3 libraries like Web3J and Web3JS (a plus)
• Familiarity with Solidity and DevOps basics (a plus)
• Experience with agile methodology and Scrum (a plus)
