Senior Power System Analysis Engineer

Overview

As a Senior Engineer in Arup’s High Voltage team, you will deliver power system studies for complex grid connections across UK and global clients. You’ll apply steady-state, dynamic and transient analyses to support offshore wind, data centres and decarbonised infrastructure. You’ll work with multidisciplinary teams to provide robust, code-compliant solutions and mentor early-career engineers. This role offers exposure to cutting-edge dynamic studies and a chance to influence the energy transition.

Responsibilities

• Conduct power system studies at transmission and distribution levels (steady-state, dynamic, transient) and assess system performance with recommended solutions
• Ensure GB grid code compliance for new connections and apply relevant standards
• Build, analyse, and validate power system models using industry-standard software (PowerFactory, PSCAD, PSS/E, IPSA, ETAP, EMTP-ATP)
• Perform power quality assessments in line with Engineering Recommendations G5/5, P28, and P29
• Engage with TOs, DNOs, clients and other engineering packages to coordinate solutions
• Lead technical project teams to deliver packages of power system studies
• Provide technical assurance for studies and mentor junior engineers
• Possibly work on bids and contribute to consultancy deliverables and client engagement
• Willingness to travel within the UK and occasionally overseas for site work

Key requirements

• Expertise in power system studies (steady-state, dynamic, transient)
• Strong knowledge of GB grid code requirements for new connections
• Proficiency with PowerFactory, PSCAD, PSS/E, IPSA, ETAP, EMTP-ATP
• Experience in power quality assessments (G5/5, P28, P29)
• Stakeholder engagement with TOs, DNOs, clients
• Experience leading technical project teams and ensuring technical quality
• Mentoring and development of early-career engineers
