Overview

As a Senior Software Developer, you will help build and shape CT-policing systems, leading design and bespoke software within a DevSecOps team. You’ll work across environments, ensuring well-architected, secure code and reusable libraries. The role sits in a modern development function with flexible, hybrid work options in Birmingham or London, centered on impactful national security work. You’ll contribute to a mission-driven area where innovation supports keeping people safe from terrorism.

Responsibilities

• Write clean, secure code using a test-driven approach
• Create open-by-default, reusable code to improve efficiency
• Build future-proof libraries for team-wide sharing
• Collaborate with product managers, designers, and QA to define requirements and deliver projects
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives for processes, automation, and productivity
• Understand the whole system and mentor others
• Integrate security checks within CI/CD pipelines
• Provide technical leadership across the software development lifecycle
• Operate in an Agile, collaborative environment with strong communication
• Maintain high code quality through automated tests and code reviews
• Demonstrate strong Git and issue-tracking skills

Key requirements

• Experience in software development and coding within an Agile DevSecOps environment
• Proficiency in at least one modern programming language (noting .net / Angular / Typescript used)
• Working knowledge of containers (Docker / Kubernetes / Helm)
• Database skills with modern RDBMS (PostgreSQL, SQL Server, MySQL)
• Clear and effective written and verbal communication, including documentation
