Overview
In this role you will lead the commercial side of major construction projects for a Tier 1 main contractor in the Midlands, owning subcontract procurement, risk control, and client settlements. You will shape commercial strategy across large packages, collaborating with project leaders to protect margin and drive value. You’ll deliver accurate cost reporting, manage variations and final accounts, and champion best-practice commercial processes. Responsibilities
- Lead commercial strategy across major construction packages, overseeing subcontract procurement, enquiry analysis, and order placements
- Produce monthly/quarterly cost reports (CVRs), cash flow projections, and margin forecasts with project leaders
- Manage client valuations, negotiate contract variations, and finalize main and subcontract final accounts
- Drive risk and opportunity planning, design strategy development, and compliance with business best practices
Key requirements
- Degree in Quantity Surveying (or equivalent)
- MRICS, MCIOB, or working toward chartered status
- Extensive main contractor commercial management experience including complex valuations, variations, and final accounts
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel, BIM tools, and computer-aided measurement software
- Expert negotiation, strong risk management, and knowledge of construction safety regulations
