Environmental Manager – Civil Engineering

Overview

In this role, you will lead the environmental function for a long-established civil engineering contractor and drive improvements in environmental performance across the business. You will work within a multi-discipline project environment to ensure compliance with legal, regulatory and corporate requirements. You will influence strategy through regular reviews, define objectives, and lead by example in EHS culture, training, and cross-functional collaboration. This is an opportunity to shape environmental governance on major schemes and across operations.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain environmental programmes to ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, customer, and corporate requirements
• Lead strategic reviews of the environmental function and set objectives to improve EHS performance and reduce liabilities
• Present environmental performance in management reviews and address issues impacting operations or strategic advantage
• Foster a best-practice EHS culture through cross-functional cooperation, communications, training
• Establish and manage environmental management programmes and support Health & Safety as needed
• Manage procedures for hazardous, regulated and solid wastes, including approvals and coordination
• Represent the company on environmental affairs with external parties and respond to regulatory issues
• Oversee environmental regulatory reporting requirements and lead emergency planning and response in environmental incidents

Key requirements

• Environmental degree/diploma is essential
• NEBOSH General Certificate in Health & Safety (or equivalent) is advantageous
• IEMA or similar professional body membership with practical site experience is advantageous
• Experience in managing ecological issues is advantageous
