Senior or Principal, CDM and Safety Assurance Services – Glasgow or Edinburgh

Overview

In this role, you lead safety in design across multidisciplinary projects, ensuring CDM 2015 compliance and influencing risk-focused decisions. You will work with designers, engineers, and project managers to deliver safe, innovative design solutions and provide independent safety guidance to clients. The position connects internal design support with external advisory work on health and safety and regulatory compliance. You’ll shape project strategies, risk profiles, and compliance outcomes, contributing to WSP’s culture of integrity, inclusion, and impact.

Responsibilities

• Review and challenge design-stage risk information
• Collaborate with designers to create hazard-mitigation strategies
• Collect information to inform risk profiles and compliance plans (PCI, HSF, BSA)
• Share industry best practices and contribute to knowledge development
• Advise clients on CDM legal responsibilities
• Apply CDM principles to complex/project-specific scenarios
• Scope issues and develop robust methodologies to resolve them
• Deliver safety in design strategies, plans, and approaches
• Support Building Regulations compliance under Building Safety Act as Principal Designer
• Compile compliance reports and documentation per CDM and BSA requirements
• Manage delivery of project deliverables within time and cost constraints

Key requirements

• Proven track record as Safety in Design or CDM professional with practical CDM 2015 knowledge and BSA 2022 experience
• Commitment to improving health and safety performance across construction projects
• Experience in transportation, utilities, engineering, operations, risk management, or related disciplines
• Degree or equivalent technical qualification in safety, engineering, construction, transportation, or related field
• Excellent verbal and written communication, with client-facing experience
• Commitment to professional development, ideally NEBOSH Construction and membership in APS, IIRSM, or IOSH
