Global Commodity Senior Buyer

Overview

In this role, you will shape and deliver commodity strategies across Machining, Fabrications and Special Processes to support current operations and future growth. You will work with engineering, operations and finance to turn strategic insights into measurable value across a multi-site aerospace supply chain. The position centers on strategic leadership, supplier governance and cost optimization to strengthen competitiveness. You will be at the heart of procurement, influencing sourcing decisions and supplier relationships.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute commodity strategies across Machining, Fabrications and Special Processes to maximise value
• Manage significant multi-site spend and lead strategic sourcing
• Analyse expenditure, cost drivers and supply markets to identify opportunities
• Negotiate commercial agreements and contracts with key suppliers
• Build and govern relationships with strategic suppliers while maintaining appropriate leverage
• Segment and manage supplier base by strategic importance
• Establish supplier governance and performance management frameworks
• Drive cost savings, value creation and commercial improvements
• Ensure contracts and sourcing strategies are implemented across the business
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to align with current and future programmes
• Support growth opportunities by developing capable, competitive supply chains
• Support major bids and programmes with significant commodity requirements
• Monitor supplier performance across cost, quality, delivery and compliance
• Use market intelligence to continually improve category strategies

Key requirements

• Around 5+ years’ experience in strategic sourcing and procurement
• Strong experience managing significant, multi-million-pound spend
• Knowledge of machining, fabrication, or special processes
• Proven track record of delivering measurable procurement savings
• Strong strategic sourcing and category management capability
• Experience negotiating contracts and managing supplier relationships
• Excellent commercial awareness and opportunity identification beyond cost reduction
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
• Ability to influence across a complex, multi-site organisation
• Pragmatic with a results-oriented mindset
• Aerospace/advanced engineering experience is advantageous
• CIPS or relevant degree/professional qualification desirable
