Overview

As Payment Scheme Compliance Manager, you will establish and lead a European scheme compliance function to ensure adherence to local payment scheme rules. You’ll design processes, monitor rule changes, and train cross-functional teams. The role offers autonomy with potential team expansion and a direct impact on compliant, scalable payment operations. You’ll engage with payment schemes and internal stakeholders to balance compliance with commercial goals. This is a chance to shape a new function within a fast-growing payments company.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and manage a cross-methodology European scheme compliance program.
  • Develop processes to ingest, interpret, and monitor scheme rule changes.
  • Act as SME on scheme rules, providing guidance and training.
  • Collaborate with Product, Legal, Risk, Compliance, Operations, and Commercial teams to operationalise rule changes.
  • Maintain proactive relationships with payment schemes to anticipate changes and impacts.
  • Identify and manage compliance risks, including challenging rules when needed.
  • Build the function’s infrastructure, including documentation, monitoring tools, and reporting.
  • Define resource needs and onboard future team members to support growth.

Key requirements

  • Strong understanding of payments industry and local schemes governance.
  • Experience interpreting and applying scheme rules in commercial/operational settings.
  • Proven ability to design and implement compliance processes from inception.
  • Excellent stakeholder management, including liaising with external scheme representatives.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to translate complex rules into actionable requirements.
  • Confident communicator with the ability to influence across the business.
