Senior Town Planner

Overview

As a Senior Town Planner in Bristol, you will lead and support planning projects across diverse sectors, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams. You will manage project delivery, act as the planning lead where needed, and help secure bids while nurturing client relationships. The role blends technical planning work with business development and mentoring of junior staff. You’ll contribute to growth of the planning team within a proactive, collaborative environment.

Responsibilities

• Act as Planning Lead or support the Planning Lead on projects
• Manage a variety of planning, development and infrastructure projects
• Take responsibility for project management and delivery
• Lead multidisciplinary projects where appropriate
• Support bids, tender submissions and framework responses
• Develop and maintain strong client relationships
• Support business development and opportunities
• Prepare high-quality planning reports and technical documentation
• Collaborate with colleagues across environmental, engineering and design disciplines
• Support and guide junior planning team members
• Contribute to growth and development of the planning team

Key requirements

• A relevant degree in Town Planning or a related discipline
• Chartered status or actively working towards MRTPI
• Strong experience in planning consultancy or related environment
• Experience across strategic planning and planning policy
• Understanding of TCPA, DCO, TWAO or equivalent processes
• Experience of Environmental Impact Assessment (advantageous)
• Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines/budgets
• Excellent written and verbal communication
• Confidence to provide planning advice to clients and stakeholders
• Ability to work well in a multidisciplinary team
• Proactive, enthusiastic and commercially aware approach
• Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain client relationships
