Lead Construction Engineer – Instrument

Overview

As Instrumentation Lead you oversee all instrumentation construction activities on EPC and PCC contracts, ensuring safety, quality and readiness through turnover to mechanical completion. You’ll coordinate with EPC discipline leads, equipment teams, and commissioning leads to deliver a clean, built-to-spec installation. The role combines site leadership with hands-on oversight of testing, energisation and handover to clients, in a high‑complexity, large‑scale project setting.

Responsibilities

• Oversee instrumentation installation, containment, cabling, testing and energisation on site
• Lead health and safety, quality, constructability and readiness across instrumentation scope
• Coordinate with EPC Instrumentation Leads, Equipment Leads, SIP Lead for scaffolding, and Pre-Commissioning/Commissioning leads
• Manage turnover to mechanical completion and client handover, ensuring cleanliness and readiness for commissioning
• Ensure compliance with client/project specs and safety standards; manage EPC reporting
• Monitor contractor performance for quality, schedule and technical compliance; raise NCRs as needed
• Review method statements, work packs, TQs, deviations and change requests; resolve technical queries
• Support construction planning, progress reporting and walkdowns; participate in punch lists and handover dossiers
• Identify and mitigate equipment risks; apply lessons learned across the project lifecycle
• Lead “build it tight” and “build it clean” to drive contractor compliance
• Collaborate with other discipline leads for seamless instrumentation integration with other installations
• Contribute to constructability and readiness processes; provide client input and ensure proper documentation

Key requirements

• Demonstrable experience on large-scale EPC projects overseeing instrumentation installation and handover
• Proven ability to coordinate multidisciplinary teams
• Ability to oversee construction planning and ensure safety and quality standards
• Experience with turnaround, testing, pre-commissioning and handover processes
• Strong capability to monitor contractor performance and manage NCRs and TQs
• Familiarity with constructing interfaces and sequencing across disciplines (Desirable)
• Experience in energy transition or large-scale industrial projects (Desirable)
