Overview
In this role you guide the design and optimization of data centre power systems, delivering reliable, efficient distribution. You will collaborate with design teams to integrate advanced simulations and ensure safety and performance. Your work supports RED’s mission to enable digital infrastructure while advancing zero-carbon built environments. The position offers impact through shaping power systems at scale and contributing to cutting-edge energy solutions.

Responsibilities
- Run load flow analyses to optimize data centre power distribution
- Perform short-circuit analysis to assess fault conditions
- Coordinate protection schemes to improve reliability and safety
- Conduct arc flash studies to mitigate risks and ensure safety standards
- Carry out harmonic studies to minimize power quality issues
- Collaborate with design teams to capture project requirements
- Contribute to transient stability studies for dynamic resilience (desirable)
- Validate input data and prepare comprehensive simulation reports
- Maintain up-to-date documentation for power system simulations and design activities
- Support continuous improvement of simulation methodologies and tools within the team
- Review models and reports produced by Power Systems engineers
Key requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Power Engineering
- Experience in power systems engineering, preferably in data centres
- Proficiency in simulation software, especially ETAP; DigSilent or SKM also acceptable
- Experience with load flow, short circuit analysis, protection coordination, arc flash, harmonic studies, and underground cable sizing
- Experience with transient stability studies (desirable) and earthing studies (desirable)
- Understanding of main electrical machines models (generators, transformers, motors, UPS)
- Experience in LV and MV systems up to 132 kV; knowledge of SCADA and power systems control
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; effective communication and collaboration
- Background in consulting or construction (preferred)
