Site Electrical Maintenance Engineer

Overview

As Site Electrical Engineer at BGIS in London, you ensure critical building systems operate within environmental parameters, performing planned and reactive maintenance on M&E assets. You will fault-find using alarm data and graphical information, support subcontractors, and uphold safety and quality procedures. You’ll use and maintain the Maximo CMMS and LOTO/PTW processes, contributing to safe, reliable plant operation. This role suits hands-on engineers who influence uptime, safety, and service quality in a high-stakes setting.

Responsibilities

• Carry out routine PPM on mechanical and electrical plant per site schedules and asset lists.
• Complete reactive tasks promptly and identify improvement opportunities, including stores and fabric-related items.
• Oversee subcontractors, approve works and ensure safe operation during service or repair.
• Operate Permit to Work system per BGIS procedures and client requirements.
• Rectify plant faults to maintain in-service availability.
• Manage spares, provide parts lists and timelines for remedial work.
• Ensure all reactive/breakdown paperwork is completed and submitted to the contract administrator.
• Prepare and use Method Statements and Risk Assessments for safe task execution.
• Build good working relationships with BGIS staff, subcontractors and client representatives.
• Maintain Safe and Healthy working environment; ensure uniform and PPE usage.
• Present a professional BGIS image to clients at all times.
• Keep BGIS plant rooms locked and tidy.
• Supervise and monitor subcontractors on site during maintenance.
• Action assigned tasks and ensure completion with appropriate H&S awareness.
• Ensure tasks comply with H&S requirements and contract KPI/SLA targets.
• Keep Computer Based Maintenance system (e.g., Maximo) up to date and close tickets with accurate data.
• (Repeated) Operate Permit to Work in line with BGIS and client requirements.
• Undertake other tasks as directed by Site management.
• Generate near-miss reports, dynamic risk assessments and detailed site activity records; escalate non-compliance.
• Monitor LOTO system operation per BGIS and client requirements.
• Oversee building environmental conditions via the BMS to maintain acceptable internal conditions.

Key requirements

• Knowledge of Air conditioning, UPS, Generators, LV systems; fault finding using alarms and graphical information.
• Experience with CMMS, preferably Maximo.
• Familiarity with Permit to Work, LOTO, risk assessments and safe working practices.
• Ability to coordinate with subcontractors and manage site paperwork and approvals.
