Senior or Principal Civil Engineer – Rivers & Coastal

Overview

In this role, you will lead and contribute to the design and management of river, coastal, and land development projects that improve flood risk and environmental outcomes. You will work within the River and Coastal Team to deliver high-quality schemes from concept to construction, collaborating with clients, regulators, and multidisciplinary teams. You’ll apply engineering judgement to optioneer options, coordinate delivery, and mentor junior engineers where possible. Responsibilities

• Prepare drainage strategies and flood risk management designs
• Deliver river engineering and river restoration schemes
• Produce calculations and planning/design-stage reports
• Create plans and drawings across project phases (concept to construction)
• Design earthworks, river structures and drainage schemes with specifications
• Conduct QA checks to ensure design quality
• Engage with the Environment Agency and other stakeholders for approvals
• Coordinate with clients, third parties and multidisciplinary teams
• Support construction phase with site queries and inspections
• Opportunity to grow the team and mentor junior engineers (line management possible)
• Project management (training available)

Key requirements

• Civil Engineering degree or equivalent
• Chartered status or near application
• Experience in infrastructure or environmental design
• Experience producing Flood Risk Assessments and SuDS designs
• Knowledge of current standards and environmental solutions
• Experience working with multiple disciplines and stakeholders
• Ability to represent employer in client-facing roles
• Ability to work independently
