Data Scientist & Machine Learning Researcher

Overview

In this role you will advance AI/ML projects within the Strategic Research Group, delivering data-centric solutions for mission-focused challenges. You’ll collaborate with senior engineers on ideas, scoping, and delivering projects for defence and internal initiatives. You’ll communicate technical concepts to leaders and contribute to direction and strategy. This position offers hands-on development with a focus on impactful, secure AI outcomes, across on-site and customer-facing settings.

Responsibilities

• Develop and deliver novel data science solutions as part of a team with guidance from seniors
• Contribute to data-centric ML projects and from scoping to delivery
• Conduct research and applied AI/ML tasks on customer and internal projects
• Work autonomously on assigned tasks within project groups
• Generate ideas for new research directions
• Deliver AI/ML/Data Science solutions to defence-related problems
• Collaborate with senior team members, customers and stakeholders to determine technical approaches and perform development for delivery
• Communicate effectively to varied audiences, including senior technical leaders and stakeholders

Key requirements

• BSc in relevant field
• Experience coding in Python and ML packages (HuggingFace, TensorFlow, PyTorch)
• Experience delivering ML solutions to stakeholders
• Solid understanding of AI/ML algorithms for various data types and tasks (Generative AI, NLP, computer vision) with ability to research beyond existing literature
• Experience training and developing AI models including Large Language Models
• Ability to produce high-quality scientific (academic style) writing for publication
• Problem-solving with autonomy and some input from technical leaders
• Self-starter and proactive in finding solutions
