Process Safety Manager

Overview

In this role you will provide technical safety leadership for hydrogen electrolyser products, owning process and functional safety across the portfolio. You will guide hazard analysis, risk assessment, design verification and safety validation, while mentoring a small safety team. You will collaborate with engineering, testing, project management, customers and regulators to ensure safe deployment in international markets. This is a hands-on, impact-driven position at the forefront of hydrogen technology and clean energy safety.

Responsibilities

• Lead Process Hazard Analyses (PHA) including HAZID/HAZOP/LOPA and drive close-out actions
• Chair HAZOP and LOPA meetings and ensure timely completion of actions
• Oversee technical safety reviews across the electrolyser product portfolio
• Develop and maintain Basis of Safety documentation and safety frameworks
• Develop and maintain FSM plans and support Functional Safety Assessments (FSA)
• Apply IEC 61508/61511 principles across lifecycle phases
• Develop ALARP calculations to support risk and LOPA
• Review SIS and proof-test procedures; lead SIL verification and QRA (RBD/FTA)
• Provide guidance on hazardous area classification, ATEX, DSEAR and IEC 60079
• Support safety cases and compliance documentation; mentor safety team and promote safety awareness across functions
• Support MOC activities; liaise with customers, suppliers and regulators; contribute to safety input for projects and product development

Key requirements

• Degree in Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or another relevant engineering discipline
• 5+ years in process safety and/or functional safety
• Experience leading or chairing HAZOP/HAZID/LOPA
• Knowledge of IEC 61508/61511
• Experience with SIL assessment, QRA, FTA and/or RBD methodologies
• Understanding of SIS/Safety Instrumented Systems and lifecycle requirements
• Experience with hazardous area classification, ATEX, DSEAR and IEC 60079
• Experience in hydrogen/industrial gas or hazardous environments
• Experience developing or reviewing safety cases and risk assessments
• Ability to work within ISO 9001 and ISO 45001 frameworks
• Strong project execution, organization and documentation skills
• Ability to influence cross-functional teams and communicate with senior stakeholders
