Senior Civil Engineer

Overview

Senior civil engineer role supporting Sizewell C and EDF EPR Engineering UK, focusing on PTLS structures and embedded components for the Nuclear Island. You will provide technical governance, review and approve design deliverables, and support procurement and contract delivery within a tightly regulated, nuclear environment. The role offers exposure to flagship nuclear programmes, lessons learned from HPC, and opportunity to influence replication strategies. You will work closely with Tier 1 suppliers and project stakeholders to drive safe, compliant, and efficient project execution.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical governance for PTLS scopes across nuclear civil structures and embedded components
• Review and approve contractor design packages, construction sequencing, and deliverables
• Support tender evaluations, supplier capability assessments, and review of fabrication methods
• Resolve technical queries, design changes, and non-conformances during fabrication and site installation
• Promote replication of HPC lessons learned and apply design maturity to SZC PTLS scope
• Act as main technical and contractual bridge for PTLS contracts between EPRE, Tier 1 suppliers, contractors, and stakeholders
• Coordinate PTLS contract delivery, manage risks and governance interfaces
• Oversee technical review workflows, supplier performance tracking, and executive reporting
• Provide high-level technical support to procurement and contract administration
• Lead the transition, adaptation, and replication of HPC designs to Sizewell C

Key requirements

• Minimum 10 years in heavy industrial or nuclear environments
• Hands-on design, manufacturing oversight, or construction experience with PTLS systems (Pools, Tanks, Liners, Sumps) and embedded metallic components
• Strong understanding of nuclear-grade fabrication, welding methodologies, and NDT/QA frameworks
• Experience on nuclear projects (preferably EPR like HPC)
• Degree in Engineering; familiarity with RCC-M, RCC-CW, Eurocodes, and UK nuclear standards advantageous
• Education: Degree in Mechanical, Civil, Nuclear, or Process Engineering for Contract Engineering Lead
• Minimum 10 years of industrial experience managing major engineering/construction contracts in regulated sectors
• Nuclear delivery experience on new-build projects (HPC or SZC PTLS contracts preferred)
• Deep understanding of contractor management, fabrication workflows, and site execution risks
• Strategic mindset with replication expertise to apply HPC lessons learned to Sizewell C
