Utilities Engineer (Roads)

Overview

In this role you will support the Roads team by delivering utility connections, diversions and infrastructure strategies across UK schemes, helping to maintain and improve road networks. You will work with engineers, project managers and graduates to produce designs, reports and site work that align with DM, BIM and sustainability goals. You’ll engage with clients and co-professionals to ensure high-quality outputs and contribute to WSP’s Future Ready, carbon measurement and inclusive culture. This is a hands-on, collaborative position with opportunities to grow technically and professionally.

Responsibilities

• Deliver utility connections, diversions and infrastructure strategies for schemes of varying size
• Prepare designs and specifications per Design Manual Roads Bridges (DMRB)
• Conduct site visits to inform designs and assess conditions
• Produce technical reports and maintain client relationships
• Support development of Graduate Engineers and Apprentices
• Measure carbon on projects as part of WSP Future Ready programme
• Ensure compliance with Health & Safety, Environmental Legislation and internal QA/QC
• Collaborate with Project and Technical Delivery teams on digital delivery initiatives

Key requirements

• Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline
• Highways design experience per DMRB, TSRGD, Traffic Signs Manual and Local Transport Notes
• Proficiency in Civils3D/AutoCAD; BIM environments knowledge (ProjectWise, Autodesk Forma) is beneficial
• Excellent communication and ability to engage with co-professionals and clients
• Proven ability to develop and maintain strong client relationships
• Professional qualifications such as IEng (attained or in progress)
• Ability to work on multiple projects and manage time effectively
