Electrical Engineer

Overview

As an Electrical Engineer at Fortna, you design and document electrical and pneumatic controls for Material Handling Systems and lead project activities through design and implementation. You will work within the Integrated Design Methodology to deliver high-quality electrical solutions and support project teams during transitions from detailed design to final engineering. Your role includes ensuring design quality, coordinating with suppliers, and contributing to installation and commissioning. This role places you at the heart of transforming automated material handling for clients, combining engineering rigor with cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Lead medium-scale design and implementation projects
• Develop RFP/supplier selection requirements and design packages
• Contribute electrical input to design reviews and DOO/FSD documentation
• Support transition from Detailed Design to Final Engineering
• Facilitate project meetings and document actions
• Develop electrical work plans and ensure milestone delivery
• Oversee drawing quality control and deliverables (panels, layouts, installation packages)
• Support prototype development and site visits for installation/commissioning
• Maintain project status reporting and risk/assumptions/decisions actions (ADRA)
• Contribute to department standard documentation and continuous improvement of DQC processes
• Utilize AutoCad, E-plan and Promis-e for drawings
• Travel domestically and internationally as required
• Maintain knowledge of industry best practices and latest technology

Key requirements

• Relevant design qualification with suitable industry experience in electrical design of complex automated material handling systems
• Conveyor control process experience (photoeyes, solenoids, VFDs, line scanner, print and apply)
• Ability to manage multiple suppliers
• Effective teamwork and high performance
• Advanced collaboration and communication skills
• MS Project and MS Office experience (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
• Experience in standard design of relevant material handling equipment
• Proficient in E-Plan for electrical design
• Flexible and approachable with strong self-motivation
• Strong interpersonal, organizational, time management and problem-solving skills
• Ability to travel domestically and internationally
