As a Mechanical Engineer in a regulated sector, you will lead mechanical and structural design, guiding teams from concept to manufacture. You’ll deliver robust solutions for bespoke handling systems and lifting equipment, ensuring compliance and quality. You’ll mentor engineers, manage technical docs, and collaborate with project teams to meet timelines. Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor engineering teams to deliver high-quality solutions meeting customer requirements
• Oversee the mechanical design process for handling systems, lifting equipment, and accessories from concept through manufacture
• Develop, review, and verify technical documentation including design reports, drawings, calculations, and compliance files
• Provide technical guidance and risk assessments to mitigate schedule impacts
• Collaborate with project managers and stakeholders to ensure seamless project execution
• Utilize Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD, and FEA tools in design work
• Engage with supply chain to specify and develop mechanical components
• Ensure compliance with Machinery Safety Regulations and LOLER

Key requirements

• BEng (2:1 or higher) in Mechanical Engineering (Master’s preferred)
• Proven experience in mechanical engineering within a highly regulated sector
• Strong knowledge of design for fabrication, welding, and manufacturing tolerancing
• Experience in heavy industry design (offshore, oil and gas, construction equipment or similar)
• Strong knowledge of mechanical and structural engineering principles
• Ability to lead teams and delegate effectively
• Chartered Engineer
• Experience with MathCAD and FEA software (ANSYS, STAAD)
• Experience with piping design software (Fluid Master / Fluid Flow, CAESAR)
• Familiarity with MBSE and requirements-led design is a plus
• Experience with NEC 4 contracts and risk identification is desirable
• Experience with BS EN 13001, BS EN 13155 or similar crane standards is desirable
• Experience with hydraulics and control systems is desirable
