Health, Safety and Environmental Engineer

Overview

As the HSE Engineer at Fuse Energy, you will safeguard safety and environmental performance across our UK renewable portfolio, supporting projects from development through early operations. You will lead HSE systems, drive a safety-first culture, and ensure compliance with UK laws and company standards. You will partner with project teams and contractors to embed robust risk controls and continuous improvement. This role offers impact at scale within a fast-growing, mission-driven energy company.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement HSE management systems, policies and procedures
• Drive a strong safety-first culture across sites, contractors and internal teams
• Provide leadership and guidance on HSE matters to site teams and project managers
• Ensure alignment with UK legislation, industry standards, and company requirements
• Oversee site safety performance during construction and commissioning
• Ensure CDM Regulations compliance and project safety standards
• Conduct and lead site audits, inspections and safety reviews
• Review and approve RAMS, method statements and risk assessments
• Investigate incidents, near misses and unsafe conditions and implement corrective actions
• Develop and monitor safety KPIs across the portfolio
• Ensure environmental compliance and permitting requirements
• Support implementation of environmental management plans and promote sustainability
• Provide HSE oversight across EPC contractors and subcontractors
• Ensure contractors meet safety, quality and environmental standards
• Support onboarding of contractors with QHSE requirements
• Conduct regular site visits, audits and performance reviews
• Escalate serious safety or compliance issues
• Produce regular HSE reports for senior management
• Maintain records of incidents, audits and inspections
• Support internal and external audits including lender requirements
• Ensure ISO standards compliance where applicable
• Support ESG reporting and compliance across the portfolio
• Identify opportunities to improve HSE performance and reduce risk
• Develop and deliver safety training, inductions and awareness programmes
• Share lessons learned across projects to improve delivery
• Drive continuous improvement in HSE systems, processes and culture

Key requirements

• 3–7 years of HSE experience in construction, energy, utilities, or infrastructure
• Strong experience in utility-scale Solar PV, BESS, wind, or large infrastructure projects
• NEBOSH qualification (essential)
• Strong understanding of UK HSE legislation and CDM Regulations
• Experience managing HSE across multiple construction sites or projects
• Knowledge of ISO standards (ISO 9001, 14001, 45001) advantageous
• Experience conducting audits, investigations, and risk assessments
• Strong understanding of EPC environments and contractor management
