Deputy Head of Electrics

Overview

In this role you will support and lead the electrics function for a busy West End theatre, ensuring safe, high‑quality lighting and sound operations. You will work closely with the Head of Electrics and cross‑functionally with production teams to meet technical requirements and maintain equipment. You will influence show integrity through coordinated get-ins/get-outs, risk management, and contractor supervision, contributing to a safe, sustainable theatre environment. This is a hands‑on leadership role at the heart of live performance.

Responsibilities

• Deputise for the Head of Electrics and cover duties in their absence
• Operate lighting and sound for performances and provide duty electrician cover
• Coordinate get-ins/get-outs, staffing, and budget approvals in HOD’s absence
• Ensure Fire Risk Assessment, licensing compliance, and safety practices
• Assist with maintenance of electrical installations and equipment, inspections, and certifications
• Supervise Electrics staff and support training needs
• Liaise with design, production, and technical staff and supervise external contractors
• Maintain records, documentation, and stock for building maintenance

Key requirements

• Professional theatre experience in lighting, sound, and building electrics
• Computer literate (Word, Excel, Outlook)
• Knowledge of Health and Safety procedures and risk assessments
• Good written and oral communication, time management, and meeting deadlines
• Ability to work under own initiative
• Desirable: electrical qualification
• Desirable: ETC lighting desk programming
• Desirable: maintenance, programming, and operation of automated fixtures
• Desirable: design software and computer networking
• Desirable: working at height and access equipment training
• Desirable: first aid training
