Overview

As Technical & Design Specialist, you bridge compliance and commercial success within BMI’s Technical Services Team. You will lead high-level project planning, complex site surveys, and precise technical drawings while mentoring colleagues to uphold standards. You’ll translate data into actionable designs and support ongoing improvement of market offerings to strengthen BMI’s competitive edge. This role combines field expertise with design leadership in a hybrid, site-and-office setting.

Responsibilities

• Mentor Technical Services and PSM Teams to share knowledge and ensure compliant solutions
• Provide technical advice and support to internal/external customers in line with BMI, BS, and relevant standards, including training and site support
• Deliver detailed technical support for flat roofing insulation and related membranes; coordinate with experts as needed
• Generate cut-to-fall designs and specifications and log them in internal systems (e.g., SpecMaster, CRM)
• Offer installation guidance by phone or electronically while ensuring BMI instructions are followed
• Identify specification/installation issues and propose process improvements to optimise commercial position
• Assist with product complaints handling for sales and site teams
• Maintain monthly reporting on technical services and commercial activity
• Travel for project surveys and training, with occasional longer stays as required

Key requirements

• Excellent product and application design technical knowledge
• Strong knowledge of internal/external standards and regulations for compliance
• Understanding of manufacturing processes impacting product quality
• Experience in customer and internal stakeholder engagement; proven relationship-building and complaint handling
• Excellent communication and influencing skills
• PC literacy; Proficient in Drawings Express and AutoCad; competent with laser level surveying equipment
