Senior Materials Engineer

Overview

In this role you drive materials and process excellence for Safran Electrical & Power’s UK team, ensuring production continuity and supporting R&D projects. You will enhance reliability and cost efficiency in motor and generator designs while collaborating with suppliers and customers to deliver safe, high-quality products. You will lead in-depth material investigations, root-cause analysis, and act as a focal point for materials issues. This is a chance to contribute to decarbonisation efforts in aerospace and shape next-generation electrical propulsion systems.

Responsibilities

• Serve as focal point for materials and processes issues and lead in-depth investigations
• Diagnose production problems and propose analyses or approaches for new designs
• Proactively improve reliability and cost effectiveness in future motor and generator designs
• Participate in customer briefings and design reviews to ensure high quality and safety of generators
• Collaborate with suppliers and customers to optimize solutions and ensure airworthiness
• Maintain and update material and process specifications with the latest technology
• Coach graduates or less experienced engineers

Key requirements

• Degree in engineering or substantial relevant experience
• Substantial experience in materials
• Specialisation in metallurgical science (academic or professional)
• Aerospace experience desirable
• Experience writing technical reports
• Experience and knowledge in joining technologies
