Communications Maintainer

Overview

In this role you will maintain critical communications systems and GFX equipment to support Harbour Acceptance Trials and maritime technology development. You will work at the Portsmouth site, collaborating with engineers and customers to ensure readiness and safety for trials. You drive fault finding, configuration, and ongoing maintenance within RFMS/UMMS frameworks, enabling smooth trial execution. This is a hands-on, impact-focused position in a forward-looking defence tech environment.

Responsibilities

• Configure GFX equipment and infrastructure to RFMS specifications for Trials Programme
• Maintain GFX gear per UMMS, BRs, JSPs, and OEM guidelines; perform scheduled maintenance
• Conduct daily readiness checks and address issues to minimise downtime
• Collaborate with Combat Systems Engineers and customers to provide on-site support during trials
• Perform fault-finding and reconfiguration; support System Operator Checks
• Register and track GFX defects in RFMS and update progress for the Operations Team
• Ensure safety and availability of equipment for daily trials
• Provide SME advice and maintain maintainer presence during trials

Key requirements

• Maintenance experience on Communication Systems
• NVQ Level 3 in Engineering or equivalent
• SC clearance eligibility or ability to obtain
• Ability to work at Portsmouth site and meet 3 days/week attendance
• Experience with RFMS and on-site trial support
